Begonias have a very long tradition as dominant plants in private gardens and parks. While begonia was called a "cemetery flower" 15 to 20 years ago, many attractive new breeds have become established in recent years. Today it is considered 'chic' to have intensively bright, vigorously growing and heat-tolerant varieties in the own garden. A special variety, for which Media Concept played a role, is presented in this blog.

Begonia x hybrida 'Viking Red on Chocolate' is the full name of this breed of Sakata Ornamentals based in the Netherlands. This fast-growing variety withstands any weather, grows very fast and shows impressive flowers. A special feature of 'Viking Red on Chocolate' are the dark chocolate brown leaves, which stand in very good contrast to the bright, red flowers.

'Viking Red on Chocolate' has the darkest leaves of all Begonias on the market. The good branching and the early flowering supports its popularity with the plant producers.

Innovative genetics are no longer enough today. It also has to be attractively staged. Over the past few weeks, the team of Media Concept Switzerland and Gregg Marketing have had the great pleasure of developing the presentation concept for the point of sale in cooperation with Sakata Ornamentals.

In addition to labels, CC top plates, posters and pot covers or pot wraps have been developed. Sustainability is important to Sakata. Therefore, in addition to the conventional selection of materials, a proposal has been developed that exclusively contains components that are biodegradable:
• Fertil pot with compostable band
• label made of cardboard
• Wooden stick for the label

We are convinced that ‘Viking Red on Chocolate’ with the attractive advertising material can be found at retailers throughout Europe in 2020.
